We decided to release the EP first, than play shows because that way, the people who are interested in our band after seeing us play live have an opportunity to buy it. If they have a copy, this will hopefully mean that they will remember us and will share it with their friends (expanding the fan base). The guitar player and I, are in school for audio engineering. We recorded the record in our basement and literally spent no money on recording costs. We also wanted to make sure we had time to get the songs down before we played them live. If we played a bad set, it could potentially influence a number of people to never see us play again. I fail to see the problem in making sure we are at our best before we start playing as opposed to growing as a band in front of an audience. We've all been in bands that didn't go anywhere and we wanted to do things differently this time. The bottom line is, we feel that it is important for the presentation of our music, whether it be recorded or live, to be the best that it can be. Also... our guitar player really... really likes Taylor Swift.

Why do bands need to play shows and earn "local credit" before they're aloud to record? Albums and shows are 2 totally different beasts.
